The Galapagos Islands, located off the west coast of Ecuador, in the Pacific Ocean, contain some of the most active volcanic areas in the world.There are six larger and several smaller islands lying on or near the equator all of the islands were formed by volcanoes, some of which are still active.NBC Weather Plus correspondent Leslie Laroche packed her bags and went on an expedition to find out how the islands were formed.To watch the video, click on the play icon in the video box to the right.
