Energy-Saving Home Tips
Cocoa, Florida is home to the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), which is part of the University of Central Florida. While the FSEC certifies all solar panels and systems in Florida, the 150-plus engineers, chemists, researchers and staff do a lot more than just transform the sun's rays into electricity that can be used at home or work. They want to help educate the public and help train "energy raters" to conduct surveys of homes and buildings and make them better and more cost-effective to run.A couple ways the FSEC has found to help homeowners cut their energy bills:Use mastic tape on vents in your home instead of duct tape. Mastic tape adheres better and keeps cool or warm air in and the outside air out.Changing your roof any time soon? Consider putting on a white roof. The darker your roof color, the more energy you use keeping your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. To find out more on saving energy at home, please click the play icon in the video box to the right.
